CRANE, Mary Ann Taylor Smith - 1900

Mary A. Taylor was born June 14, 1822. She departed this life Jan. 28, 1900, aged 77 years, 7 months and 14 days. On the 12th day of December, 1839, she was married to Darwin Smith, who died Feb. 21, 1853. To them six children were born, four of whom still live: Sarah Reed, Elizabeth Warrick, Rachel Hawkins and Amos Smith, all of whom were present at the burial services. On December 4, 1856, she was again married, this time to Joel Crane. To this union four sons were born: John, Ambrose, Warren and Ira. These are all living and all except John were at the burial. John R. Crane was summoned to the bedside of his wife, who is at Indianapolis for medical treatment. The last husband, Joel Crane in his 83d year of life is now quite feeble with recent affliction, he was unable to attend the services, and will survive Mother Crane only a little while. Mother lived a devoted christian life from early childhood and at the time of her death was a member of the Salem M. E. church. Funeral services were held in the O. P. church at 11 a.m. Tuesday morning a discourse by the writer was given to a large number of relatives and friends, from the text: “She has done what she could” Mark 14; 8. The Salem choir rendered excellent and appropriate song service. The Coffing Bros. of Attica had charge of the casket. Lew Crane, of Kansas, who is visiting his father, was at the funeral. A large number of grandchildren and many members of the Salem church were in the congregation. We laid the body to rest in the new cemetery to await the final resurrection.
